ABOUT CENTRAL LIBRARY

The Institute has a modern Central Library which is established in 1986 and divided into two floors. 1st floor is complete Issue Section, working hour is 10.00 am to 5.00 pm (07 hours) and 2nd floor is complete Reference Section, working hour is morning 8.00 am to night 9.00 pm (13 hours). Issue section contains approx. 80,000 books in various disciplines of engineering, science, computer science, computer application, management, novel, general leisure books, technical & non technical competition books and BIS Codes approximate number 1200, etc. Reference section contains approx. 22,000 books for student’s ready reference, 150 journals and magazines. The section has 250 students seating capacity at a time. One separate room is also available for faculty and staff members and one separate room for PG & Research scholars. All these sections contain a free internet surfing zone for e-books, e-journals & e-magazines access with 20 computers. Along with this BIT have a separate Merit Book Bank section for the top seven BIT meritorious students of every branch & semester, which contains approx. 5500 books. The students are provided with additional 06 books at a time for the whole semester to encourage the topper students and separate SC/ST Book Bank section for the relevant students, which contains approx. 2500 books. CCTV Web cameras have been fixed in the Central Library and the entire building is under camera surveillance. Well qualified and experienced staff is always available assist to students.

Main Features of the Central Library, BIT

Separate Issue Section: Central Library have separate Issue Section in first floor with 2495 sq. meter space, which contain approx. 58,000 books in various discipline of engineering, sciences, computer application, management and IS Codes approximate number 1230 etc.

Separate Reference Section: Central Library have separate Reference Section in second floor with 2495 sq. meter space, which contain approx. 22,000 books for user’s ready reference and the section opens from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm (13 hours, Monday-Friday) and 8.00 am to 4.00 pm on Saturday. The sections have 250 students seating capacity at a time. One separate room is available for faculty and staff members and one separate room for PG & research scholars also. All these section contains free hi-speed internet surfing zone for e-books, e-journals & e-magazines access with 20 computers.

Separate Departmental Library: BIT have separate Departmental Library in every branch for quick reference of the faculty and students, which contains approx. 10000 books. The Project works of the students (UG & PG) are also collected in the Departmental Library.

Separate Merit Book Bank: BIT have separate Merit Book Bank section for top seven BIT meritorious students of every branch & semester, which contains approx. 5500 books; the students are provided with additional 06 books at a time for whole semester to encourage the topper students. This facility is completely free for all branch and semester topper students, Institute never charges directly or indirectly.

Separate SC/ST Book Bank: BIT have separate SC/ST Book Bank section for the relevant students, which contains approx. 2500 books; the students are provided additional 06 books at a time for whole semester.

Separate Competition Cell: Central Library has separate Competition Cell in both section (Issue & Reference) to provide technical & non technical competitive study materials and environment for various competitive exams faced by the students, which contains approx. 7500 books. The collection contains engineering & other competitive books like GATE, PSC, PSU, UPSC, RBI, RRB, LIC, DRDO, ONGC, SAIL, BHEL, BSNL, IBPS, NDA & NA, PO, CDS, SSC, CAT, MAT, GRE, GMAT, TOFFEL etc published by renowned publisher like Made Easy, GK Pub., Cengage Learning, MGH, ACE Pub., Lexis Nexis, Prabhat Prakashan, Arihant Pub., Unique Pub., S. Chand etc. This section is regularly updated by procuring famous publications with latest collection.

Separate e-books Section: The library has separate e-book section for text books & reference books, which contains approx. 1,600 titles and 10,000 volumes. The section have separate 20 computers for e-books access, which can be accessed both online & offline system. Offline e-book access is faster than online & it can be accessed anywhere in the BIT campus through BIT IP address. Online e-books can be accessed out of campus through user ID & password by every BIT students, staff & faculty members. Apart from the e-books, this platform also provide online test preparation programme for self assessment as well as group assessment with real time function. The e-library platforms also have the feature to upload audio/videos by faculty members, which can be seen by every user.

Separate e-journals Section: Central Library have separate e-journals section with national & international standard, which contains approx. 15 national e-journals & approx. 25,000 international journals like The Institute of Engineers, Apex Publication, Enriched Publication, Springer Nature, J-Gate, IEEE ASPP etc. All above mentioned journals are multiuser journals, accessible through college IP range. Many users can access at a time simultaneously from their departments.

Separate CD Section: Central Library have a separate digital library section for the students, which contains approx. 2350 CDs containing some software installation CDs, CBT CDs, Personality Development (body language, corporate etiquette, leadership skills, presentation skill, public speaking, how to face interviews, positive attitude, listening skills, the gifts of imperfection etc), TOEFL, GRE, CAT, GMAT Test; Advanced Spoken English & Phonetics, group discussion & interview skills etc. The section also contains Magazine CDs like Digit, Chip, Developer, Computer Active, PCQ, LFY, EFY, Computer’s today, Computer Sanchar Suchana etc to help the students to prepare for minor/major projects as well as research works.

Separate PG & Research Section: Central Library has separate PG (ME/M.Tech.) & Research section (Ph.D. in various discipline) to encourage the research programme. Separate text books & reference books and separate seating arrangement have been made to provide the research friendly environment and study materials. The section contains collection of approx. 1500 books from Indian and foreign publications.

Separate News Paper Section: BIT have separate news papers of local and national standard to cover all India news like Hindustan Times (Delhi edition), The Times of India (Raipur edition), The Economic Times (Nagpur edition), The Telegraph (Kolkata edition). The section contains 20 news papers of Hindi & English edition. The section also helps the students in getting information about employment news through weekly news papers like Employment News, Rojgar Aur Niyojan.

Automation Software: Central Library have “KOHA”, international standard, web based Library Automation Software. Approx. all functions of library have been executed by computer. Document transactions have been executed through bar code. Library has two OPAC systems for the users self query and search documents by author, title, class number, subject, combined etc. Users can access 24x7 library resources though the institute web site from any where.

Print Journals & Magazines: BIT have 140 numbers of print National and International hard copy journals in various disciplines and 15 numbers of competitive, current affairs & leisure magazines for preparation of technical & non technical competitive examinations. Most of the national and internation journals are indexed in Web of Science (WoS), Science Citation Index (SCI), Scopus Indexed Journal (SCOPUS), UGC Care list etc with covering all branches.

Library provides free borrower ticket to all users, but in case of missing/mishandling Rs.50/- will be charged per ticket for issuing duplicate ticket.
Two question papers will be issued for 30 days for all cadres and thereafter fine will be charged as above.
Students are issued books for 30 days but they can return books after 01 (one) day, if they wish to change/return the books.
Mishandling of books/journals/magazines/question papers/IS codes etc will be charged @ Rs.250.00 per item.
Missing of Question Paper/IS code will be charged Rs.250.00 per document.
Students, who wish to avail CD Library facility, are advised to make a CD Library member ticket. Missing/Damage/Broken of CD cannot be returned and charges @Rs.150.00 per CD will be imposed.
JRF/Alumni members are charged Rs.500/- yearly as Library facility fee.
Book Bank facilities will be provided to Seven BIT Topper of every branch/course and every semester (as per list provided by HOD/Office) for full one semester and thereafter fine will be charged as mentioned above.
Reference section documents cannot be issued generally, in case of emergency over night issue to staff/faculty member can be made with the written permission of competent authority (Principal/Prof. I/c/Librarian).
At a time maximum 4 books and 2 journals/magazines may be issued to users from Reference section to read in the Library. Question Paper will not be issued from Reference section except for Photocopying.
The Institute provides “Free Internet Surfing Zone / e-books section” to students/ staff/faculty members but misuse (chatting/vulgar site visit etc) of the facility will take serious action against the user. The users are instructed to proper log in into the relevant register.
Students are advised not to keep any valuable items (cash/mobile/calculator/laptop etc) in property counter. Library staffs are not responsible for their valuable items.
Member cards should not be exchanged, if found any misuse of cards from any member, Rs.250/- will be charged both members and/or 15 days suspension of Library facility.
Missing of Books/Journals/Magazines etc may be replaced with current or higher edition of items, in case of not available in market fine will be charged 02 (two) times of current rate. If the missing items will be replaced with old materials, then @ current binding charge will be imposed.
All Library users are advised to properly circulate the library materials within specified time, after due date of documents fine will be charged as per rules, no relaxation will be given in any case (PL/Vacation/Holiday/Exam. etc).

E-journals-

Central Library have separate e-journals section with national & international standard, which contains approx. 142 national journals & approx. 24900 international journals like IEEE, J-Gate, Springer Nature etc. All above mentioned journals are multiuser journals, accessible through college IP range. Many users can access at a time simultaneously from their departments. The central library has 20 machines to access the above journals and the section opens 8.00 am to 9.00 pm (13 hours, Monday-Friday) and 8.00 am to 4.15 pm on Saturday.

The library has separate e-book section for text books & reference books, which contains 1000 approx. titles and 6000 approx. volumes. The section have separate 20 computers for e-books access, which can be accessed both online & offline system. Offline e-book access is faster than online & it can be accessed anywhere in the BIT campus through BIT IP address. Online e-books can be accessed out of campus through user ID & password by every BIT students, staff & faculty members. Apart from the e-books, this platform also provide online test preparation programme for self assessment as well as group assessment with real time function. The e-library platforms also have the feature to upload audio/videos by faculty members, which can be seen by every user.
