Main Features of the Central Library, BIT
Separate Issue Section: Central Library have separate Issue Section in first floor with 2495 sq. meter space, which contain approx. 56,000 books in various discipline of engineering, sciences, computer application, management and IS Codes approximate number 1230 etc.
Separate Reference Section: Central Library have separate Reference Section in second floor with 2495 sq. meter space, which contain approx. 22,000 books for user’s ready reference and the section opens from 8.00 am to 9.00 pm (13 hours, Monday-Friday) and 8.00 am to 4.00 pm on Saturday. The sections have 250 students seating capacity at a time. One separate room is available for faculty and staff members and one separate room for PG & research scholars also. All these section contains free hi-speed internet surfing zone for e-books, e-journals & e-magazines access with 20 computers.
Separate Departmental Library: BIT have separate Departmental Library in every branch for quick reference of the faculty and students, which contains approx. 10000 books. The Project works of the students (UG & PG) are also collected in the Departmental Library.
Separate Merit Book Bank: BIT have separate Merit Book Bank section for top seven BIT meritorious students of every branch & semester, which contains approx. 5500 books; the students are provided with additional 06 books at a time for whole semester to encourage the topper students. This facility is completely free for all the topper students, Institute never charges directly or indirectly.
Separate SC/ST Book Bank: BIT have separate SC/ST Book Bank section for the relevant students, which contains approx. 2500 books; the students are provided additional 06 books at a time for whole semester.
Separate Competition Cell: Central Library has separate Competition Cell in both section (Issue & Reference) to provide technical & non technical competitive study materials and environment for various competitive exams faced by the students, which contains approx. 7500 books. The collection contains engineering & other competitive books like GATE, PSC, PSU, UPSC, RBI, RRB, LIC, DRDO, ONGC, SAIL, BHEL, BSNL, IBPS, NDA & NA, PO, CDS, SSC, CAT, MAT, GRE, GMAT, TOFFEL etc published by renowned publisher like Made Easy, GK Pub., Cengage Learning, MGH, ACE Pub., Lexis Nexis, Prabhat Prakashan, Arihant Pub., Unique Pub., S. Chand etc. This section is regularly updated by procuring famous publications with latest collection.
Separate e-books Section: The library has separate e-book section for text books & reference books, which contains approx. 1,500 titles and 10,000 volumes. The section have separate 20 computers for e-books access, which can be accessed both online & offline system. Offline e-book access is faster than online & it can be accessed anywhere in the BIT campus through BIT IP address. Online e-books can be accessed out of campus through user ID & password by every BIT students, staff & faculty members. Apart from the e-books, this platform also provide online test preparation programme for self assessment as well as group assessment with real time function. The e-library platforms also have the feature to upload audio/videos by faculty members, which can be seen by every user.
Separate e-journals Section: Central Library have separate e-journals section with national & international standard, which contains approx. 35 national e-journals & approx. 25,000 international journals like The Institute of Engineers, Apex Publication, Enriched Publication, Springer Nature, J-Gate, IEEE ASPP etc. All above mentioned journals are multiuser journals, accessible through college IP range. Many users can access at a time simultaneously from their departments.
Separate CD Section: Central Library have a separate digital library section for the students, which contains approx. 2250 CDs containing some software installation CDs, CBT CDs, Personality Development (body language, corporate etiquette, leadership skills, presentation skill, public speaking, how to face interviews, positive attitude, listening skills, the gifts of imperfection etc), TOEFL, GRE, CAT, GMAT Test; Advanced Spoken English & Phonetics, group discussion & interview skills etc. The section also contains Magazine CDs like Digit, Chip, Developer, Computer Active, PCQ, LFY, EFY, Computer’s today, Computer Sanchar Suchana etc to help the students to prepare for minor/major projects as well as research works.
Separate PG & Research Section: Central Library has separate PG (ME/M.Tech.) & Research section (Ph.D. in various discipline) to encourage the research programme. Separate text books & reference books and separate seating arrangement have been made to provide the research friendly environment and study materials. The section contains collection of approx. 1500 books from Indian and foreign publications.
Separate News Paper Section:BIT have separate news papers of local and national standard to cover all India news like Hindustan Times (Delhi edition), The Times of India (Raipur edition), The Economic Times (Nagpur edition), The Telegraph (Kolkata edition). The section contains 20 news papers of Hindi & English edition. The section also helps the students in getting information about employment news through weekly news papers like Employment News, Rojgar Aur Niyojan.
Automation Software: Central Library have “KOHA”, international standard, web based Library Automation Software. Approx. all functions of library have been executed by computer. Document transactions have been executed through bar code. Library has two OPAC systems for the users self query and search documents by author, title, class number, subject, combined etc. Users can access 24x7 library resources though the institute web site.
Print Journals & Magazines: BIT have 150 numbers of print National and International hard copy journals in various disciplines and 15 numbers of competitive, current affairs & leisure Magazines for preparation of technical & non technical competitive examinations.
