The Department of Applied Mathematics in Bhilai Institute of Technology comprises of highly qualified, trained and dedicated team of faculty and staff. The Department of Applied Mathematics serves to three main groups of students – undergraduates, future educators, majors employing mathematics in higher studies and research scholars. The faculty, with a dedication to teaching, compliments one another with diverse strengths and interests such as applied mathematics, statistics, mathematical research, and the utility of mathematical reasoning in real world problem.

The faculty of the Department is actively involved in research activity. The Departmental research has been supported by Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology. The Department has one project ongoing. Doctoral research is carried out actively in the Department. The major thrust is in the area of Mathematical modeling in Celestial Mechanics, Functional analysis and Fuzzy logic and Relativity. Eight research scholars have already been awarded Ph.D. and presently ten candidates are pursuing their Ph.D. from this Department. We also collegially pursue common goals within the department and college. We offer our students’ academic challenges along with support to help them succeed. We encourage them to develop problem-solving abilities which transcend the confines of the field of mathematics.

Vision

The Department of Mathematics aspires to the highest standards of excellence in teaching and research. The department strives to earn national recognition for its expertise in teaching & research in the field of pure and applied mathematics.

Mission

  • To provide a solid mathematical back ground to the undergraduate students so that they are more competent in harnessing their knowledge for practical use.
  • To empower the doctoral candidates so that they become independent and creative researcher in the diverse field of mathematics.
  • To motivate the faculty to develop knowledge and skill.
  • To develop wide range of research representing interdisciplinary activities.
