Civil Engineering Department is one of the first core branches established in 1986 with a mission of offering qualitative technical education and effective interaction with industries giving special emphasis on R & D and Consultancy. The department is running PG Courses in Structural Engineering and Environmental Science and Engineering. The department is proud of its learned and experienced faculty, well-equipped laboratories and other infrastructure available. The department has been recognized as a consultancy centre for road construction, traffic census, material testing, structural design, etc. by leading private and government agencies. The department is having its own computer centre linked to the BIT LAN and advanced computing Lab with latest Software like STAAD PRO, ANSYS, etc.

Dr. M. K. Gupta is a Technical Member of CED7 Committee of Bureau of Indian Standards and has contributed significantly towards the same.
He has delivered expert lectures on Limit State Design of Steel Structures at DCE Delhi, VNIT Nagpur, SGSITS Indore, SVNIT Surat and GP Nagpur.
He is currently Chairman, Board of Studies, Civil Engineering, CSVTU.
He has also served as Honorary Secretary of IE(I), Bhilai Local Centre.
Dr. S. K. Jaiswal is a Member of Water Resources Core Group,CSVTU.

Dr. S. J. Nair was awarded P. V. Patki Memorial Prize for an article published in Journal of Indian Water Works Association.
Quereshi was awarded Sanchar Bhushan Award for excellence in work by Telecom Department, GoI.
