The Department of Computer Applications at Bhilai Institute of Technology was started in 1998. It currently offers six semester MCA course leading to a Masters Degree in Computer Applications (MCA) and Ph. D. program. In the growing digital phenomenon all over the world, the MCA program aims at imparting comprehensive knowledge with equal emphasis on theory and practice. The MCA program focuses on providing a sound theoretical background as well as good practical exposure to students in the relevant areas. The MCA program prepares students to take up positions as system analysts, systems designers, programmers and managers in any field related to information technology.

Total number of students intake in MCA program is 60 per year. During last 14 years, this branch produced highly skilled, technically empowered, self-motivated professionals to serve the humanity both nationally and internationally at par excellence. The department not only supports freedom of thought, but also encourages growth, cultivates human values and concern for the environment and the society.

The Department of Computer Applications has a Multi-objective mission:

  • To Facilitate Quality Scientific and technical education, to Equip and Enrich overall development of students for facing Global challenges in Development, Innovation and Application of Technology in the service of Humanity.
  • To inculcate value-based, socially committed professionalism by providing in-depth understanding of fundamental theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Science, and the ability to adapt to the ever-changing and challenging global work environment of the 21st century.
  • To provide knowledge of wide-ranging Computer Science concepts, tools, and mathematical techniques or models, and the capability of applying them to analyze and design complex systems.

  • The Department has a rich pool of intellectual senior faculty members who continuously strive to shape outstanding computer professionals. Faculty members are experienced with specialization in Networking, Image Processing, Data Mining, Software Engineering, Web Technology, Network Security, etc.
  • Syllabus is updated frequently with respect to latest industrial applications and in close interaction with leading industries and educational institutions. It covers various aspects of computational theory, programming, algorithm design and optimization, network and database management, mobile technologies, basic electronics, mathematics, probability, statistics, accounting, finance, etc.
  • Modern teaching aids and methods such as LCD, Smart classes are used by faculty members for providing quality education to bring students up to the requisite standards.
  • The Head of the Department continuously monitors student’s progress.
  • The Department has been approved as a Ph. D. research center by the University
  • One research project entitled “Development of Long range monsoon rainfall forecasting system at subdivision level: A case study of Chhattisgarh state”, funded by CCOST, Raipur have been successfully completed.
  • A project entitled “Development of meteorological information system: A case of rural areas of Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh” is currently under development, approved and funded by CCOST, Raipur.
  • 2 patents/ copyrights are registered entitled as AI-CFS v 1.0 and AI-CIS v 1.0, New Delhi, India.
